Construction activities on Sempra Energy’s Cameron LNG export project are expected to resume this week following a week of flooding in Texas and Louisiana due to Hurricane Harvey.
CCJV, the joint venture between CB&I and Chiyoda which is Cameron LNG’s contractor, visited the site Thursday morning and “indicated no significant damage during its preliminary inspection,” Sempra said in a statement issued on Friday.
“CCJV will continue their assessment over the next few days. We anticipate construction activities to resume next week when the site re-opens on September 5,” the company added.
Sempra and its partners in the Cameron LNG export project in Louisiana are currently building the first three liquefaction trains with a nameplate capacity of 13.9 million tons per annum.
Sempra said recently in its second-quarter results that its $10 billion Cameron LNG project start date is now expected to be 2019 rather than 2018. Sempra said the delay was due to issues related with engineering, procurement and construction.
The JV partners are also planning to expand the facility to include up to two additional liquefaction trains raising the project’s capacity to nearly 25 Mtpa,
Cameron LNG is a joint venture owned by affiliates of Sempra Energy, Engie, Mitsui & Co. and Japan LNG Investment, a joint venture formed by units of Mitsubishi Corporation and Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha.
