Flex LNG, the shipping company controlled by billionaire John Fredriksen, is set to add six new liquefied natural gas carriers to its fleet by 2019.
Speaking to Reuters, company’s CEO, Jonathan Cook said, contracts have been signed, as well as adding that the initial payments have been processed during the month.
LNG World News contacted Flex LNG seeking further information on the report. This article will be updated once a response is received.
In April this year, the company completed a private placement, securing US$125 million to fund the acquisition of two MEGI LNG carriers. Following the transaction, Geveran Trading increased its shareholding in Flex LNG to 52 percent.
With the acquisition of the two carriers, Flex LNG would have a uniform fleet of six LNG MEGI carriers.
Cook added in the report that the first two vessels, commissioned at the South Korean shipyards, Samsung Heavy Industries and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME), are scheduled for delivery in January 2018. The remaining four vessels are set to be delivered by August 2019.
Flex LNG is looking to tie some of the vessels on long-term contracts while some would be deployed in the spot and short-term LNG markets, with Cook saying the growing UK market is one the company is looking to focus on.
