Evol LNG has been selected to be the long-term supplier of liquefied natural gas by a regional electricity supplier, Horizon Power.
The Esperance power project, which Horizon Power is a part of, aims to reduce the town of Esperance’s carbon footprint and emissions by 50 per cent.
The project involves the construction of a new power station fuelled by LNG as well as other clean energy infrastructure, including a 9MW wind farm and a 4MW solar farm.
Evol LNG manager Nick Rea said the project demonstrates the role of LNG in complementing high-penetration renewables.
“The key advantage of Evol LNG’s solution is its ability to work harmoniously and cost-effectively with variable wind and solar generation.
LNG will be transported from a production facility located in Kwinana, owned by Evol LNG parent company, Kleenheat, and stored in a custom-built storage and vaporisation facility that can hold enough LNG to power the town for 25 days.
