The award is for a booster compression module FEED with optional engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for the project, McDermott explained on Tuesday.

The booster compression module will be added to the Ichthys LNG offshore central processing facility, located off the northwest coast of Western Australia.

“This award illustrates McDermott’s continuing expertise in complex offshore EPCI”, said Ian Prescott, McDermott’s Senior Vice President, Asia Pacific.

“Our work to date demonstrates our qualifications to deliver smart solutions in challenging environments—and to the highest safety and technical standards”.

McDermott is also undertaking umbilicals, risers and flowlines (URF) work as part of an expansion of the existing Ichthys LNG facilities.

McDermott said that the engineering for the latest contract award will be completed in its Asia Pacific headquarters in Kuala Lumpur.

It is worth reminding that the Ichthys project marked its 200th LNG cargo with the departure of the Energy Advance LNG tanker in late September 2020.

At its peak production, Ichthys LNG is capable of producing up to 8.9 million tons per annum of LNG, 1.65 million tons per annum of liquefied petroleum gas 100,000 barrels of condensate a day.

About 70 per cent of the LNG produced by the export project is supplied to Japanese customers.
