Novatek Gas & Power, a unit of Yamal LNG project developer Novatek, joined the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel and the SEALNG association to help promote LNG as a marine fuel.
Both organizations are active in promoting the increased use of cleaner burning LNG for marine transportation.
Novatek’s chairman, Leonid Mikhelson, said that the “recent adoption of stricter emission standards for marine transportation by 2020 is consistent with our strategy for entering into new prospective LNG market segments including bunkering.”
He noted the company expects more shipping companies to opt for LNG to meet these stricter requirements adding the company is ” ready to facilitate the LNG bunkering market and infrastructure development.”
The two organizations joined forces in March to define separate but complementary missions to achieve their common goal of making LNG the fuel of choice for the shipping industry.
